The blue tit is, together with the great tit, Denmark's most widespread tit. It is seen everywhere in the country, and it readily comes to both bird feeders and nest boxes.
During the breeding season, the blue tit prefers gardens if there are available nest boxes. Otherwise, it stays in forested areas where it can find cavities for its nest. In the breeding season, blue tits are very territorial, while especially in winter they fly around in groups together with other tits.
Most breeding birds overwinter in Denmark, where the population is increased by migratory birds from the east and north. If you have a bird feeder with grain, you will quickly get visits from the blue tit during the winter period.
The blue tit is easily recognizable from other birds by its many colors. It is easily distinguished from the great tit by its smaller size, blue cap, and black stripe on the side of its head.
