On the eastern edge of the national park, there are two dog forests where dogs are allowed to run off-leash. However, it is important that only dogs whose owner has "full control" over them are let loose. If you do not have a dog that you can always call back to you, it must be kept on a leash.
Outside the dog forests, dogs must be kept on a leash everywhere in the national park, and it is furthermore not permitted to bring dogs into Hanstholm Wildlife Reserve.
Vilsbøl Plantation dog forest is a very large dog forest located by main road 557 between Klitmøller and Thisted.
It is located south of the road and can easily be found by looking for the "Dog Forest" sign as shown below.
The picture above is taken in the direction of travel from west to east (from Klitmøller). Note that there is a crossing cycle path, so extra attention should be paid when both entering and exiting.
Faddersbøl Dog Forest is a smaller dog forest located on the outskirts of Faddersbøl by main road 539 between Nørre Vorupør and Faddersbøl. It is located north of the main road and, like the above-mentioned dog forest, can easily be found using the sign shown below.
In addition to the forest, there is also a large open area where the dogs can run around.
