Hanstholm Lighthouse is not part of the national park, but we have included it here anyway. Partly because it is an obvious starting or ending point when traveling through the national park, and in addition, it has some short hiking trails that start at the lighthouse and offer a fantastic view over the northern part of the park.
As mentioned in the table above, 3 hiking trails start from the lighthouse. In addition to the three hiking trails, the West Coast Trail from Bulbjerg to Agger also passes by the lighthouse, but it is described in a separate section.
The accessible trail is a short route of 640 meters, which was inaugurated in 2010. Along the route there are accessible tables and benches, and you pass by the coastal cliff, which offers a view over the northern part of the national park as shown above.
The blue route (Battery 1 route) is 1.5 km and, as the name suggests, leads over to Battery 1. Since you have to go down the slope to get over to the battery position, you should be prepared for the route to include very steep sections.
The yellow route (Vigsø route) goes over the north-facing slope west towards Vigsø and is 14 km long.
Lodbjerg Lighthouse is a 35 meter high lighthouse, which was built in 1883 and is located a bit isolated in the middle of the national park. The lighthouse is now automatic, but when it was built, a lighthouse keeper, an assistant keeper, and an assistant were needed, and therefore there are two residences together with the lighthouse. These are now used, among other things, for exhibitions and a café.
In the lighthouse keeper's residence, as mentioned, there is a small café, and if you bring your own packed lunch, there are many benches and tables at the Henhouse (to the right in the picture above). There is also access to the top of the lighthouse for a fee. The fee is 30 DKK (as of early 2021).
As mentioned, the lighthouse is located out by itself, and you have to drive a stretch on a smaller road to get there. Most of it is paved, but the last kilometer is a gravel road with many loose stones, and it is recommended to drive slowly here to avoid damaging both your own and passing cars.
